About Us

What is 'The Parenting Project'?

The Parenting Project is a voluntary organisation, which works across the Stratford District for families with children from 0-19 years. It offers a wide range of services to help make parenting that little bit easier, from information and signposting to home visiting and courses. It began in 2003 to improve the quality and range of services on offer for families in the area.

What can you offer me and my family?

Families can call us about the services available in the area. If there is any specific advice, or support you need on any aspect of parenting we can visit you at home to talk through the next steps. We can provide advice and support on issues from dealing with your child's behaviour, housing and benefits, to safety in the home and childcare options. There are also opportunities to meet with other parents on one of our parenting courses, which provide practical advice on dealing with behaviour and building relationships, in a supportive environment.

I have a child under 5, what's on offer for us?

You can access one of our Sure Start Children's Centres local to your community, which will offer the same information and family support services but with extra opportunities for you and your child to play and meet with other children and parents.

A Sure Start Children's Centre brings together quality early learning, child and family health services, family support and links to training and employment advice, all under one roof. For more about what's on offer phone the Children's Centre for a welcome pack and timetable.

Who do you work with?

We work closely with a wide range of people from a wide range of organisations and agencies. The health professionals we work alongside include Health Visitors and Midwives, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians and School Nurses. They deliver many of their services from Sure Start Children's Centres. We also work with people from Children's Services, Job Centre Plus, Family Information Service, and organisations such as the Credit Union. Most people we work with regularly visit the centres but can be easily contacted through Sure Start Children's Centre.

How can I get Involved?

We encourage all parents who attend groups or courses to give us feedback on how they feel it has benefited them and how we can improve. If you would like to take a more active part in sharing your views and shaping the way the project develops, you are welcome to join our Parents Focus group, which meets to discuss ideas and share feedback. There are also plenty of opportunities to involved through volunteering. This is great if you would like to gain more skills and experience, want to improve your confidence, or want to make a real difference!
